Aristotelian buffoonery
Still exists...
We constantly see in these spaces a trope posted over and over ad nauseum the premise of which is that the entire universe rotates around the Earth daily.
This is the excuse conjured up for the notion that Earth cannot be spinning.
The word ‘tautology’ is thrown around indiscriminately as a slur, the supposed take-away being that one thing is similar to another, i.e. Earth spinning vs the spinning stars, like a mirror image.
This isn’t even the definition of tautology to start with.
Tautology (noun) actually means - the saying of the same thing twice in different words, generally considered to be a fault of style (e.g., frozen ice)
As I have pointed out in another post, Earth’s rotation is easily observed by simply using a camera at night on time lapse to photograph the stars. I have done it before.
Let me quickly add, as anyone who’s read me should know by now, I do not adhere to the Copernican model that the Earth orbits the Sun!
I’ve shown you before the model doesn’t even work.
I stand with Tycho Brahe and the model he lays out in his magnum opus, Progymnasmata Astronomiae, though I have not read it in its entirety, nor have you. In his model, the true model, the Sun orbits Earth, while the planets orbit the Sun.
As I’ve shown in other posts,
Tycho’s own book refutes the claim that Earth does not spin. In astronomy, Earth’s daily spin is called the diurnal motion. I can site numerous places in Tycho’s letters where he affirms a spinning Earth, but his book should be proof enough that he could in no way shape or form have believed otherwise.
Let’s get down to it.
Why the motion of the Sun and the stars confirm a spinning Earth
Aristotelic boys ask, how can 50” of precession be seen in a wobbling Earth?
First of all, as I said, I side with Tycho Brahe and pay no heed to the wobbling Earth gobbledygook touted by the mainstream. (nor should you)
Now, in Hipparchus’ time it was well known that the fixed stars, which make up the Zodiac, seemed to be sliding ‘backwards’ at a rate of about one degree every 100 years. By the time of Ptolemy, this precession was observed to be about one degree every seventy years. This “backwardation” is known as the precession of the equinoxes.
It seems to have been instituted by the Creator as a backstop against the Aristotelian buffoonery that people constantly regurgitate, saying the entire heavens are rotating around Earth every twenty four hours. And yet they ask how 50” of precession per year occur??
People who actually study astronomy know that the Sun and the planets move prograde around Earth, from our viewpoint as Tycho, among others, said.
For example, the Sun orbits the Earth prograde, or counter-clockwise as seen from above Earth.
But on a daily basis, the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west, (in both hemispheres). In other words, exactly opposite of prograde.
Yet the Aristotelic boys want to have it both ways. The Sun and stars circle Earth daily?? Are you serious?!
Now we can easily know that the Sun and the fixed stars are not carried around together as some would have it since the Sun’s daily motion of about one degree, in the opposite direction, is observable. Earth spins at about 15° per hour, we see the fixed stars moving at precisely that amount per night, however the Sun does not obey this, since it is moving counter to our spin by about 1° per day. So it is observed to move about by about 14.958393° or 14°57’ 32.8” per day, not 15° like the stars.
But more to the point, as everyone should know, the Sun travels through each sign of the zodiac during the year. Anyone who cares to look knows that Orion, for example, is low in the east during winter and high in the sky during summer, and this very fact alone demonstrates the process of how Earth’s diurnal motion combined with the Sun’s ecliptic longitude accounts for the Sun’s seasonal drift through the constellations.
The constellations which make up the Zodiac never change. The stars of Orion’s belt never move relative to one another. People noticed eons ago that the Sun moved around these constellations throughout a year and so the concept of the Zodiac was born.
It stems from the Greek term zōdiakòs kýklos (ζῳδιακός κύκλος). Essentially a belt of animals. As we all know, most of the constellations are assigned to one animal or another, with a few exceptions. Our “sign” is the constellation the Sun was in when we were born.
But on a much longer time scale, the Zodiac, that belt of little animals, marches slowly in reverse. As I said previously, it precesses at about one degree every seventy years. This equates to about fifty arc-seconds per year [50”]. A very small amount.
Now how on Earth can the entire sphere of the fixed stars spin around 360° every twenty-four hours, while at the same time only advancing 50” per year? Someone please demonstrate to me how that geometry works. Yet this is what the Aristotelic boys adhere to.
Now, should a person wish to ascribe that slow 50” rotation of the fixed stars around Earth to the Heavens, I have no qualms with that. And that is precisely what Tycho Brahe believed, that precession was caused by the slow rotation of the eighth sphere, the sphere of the fixed stars. Which would result in the same observed progression, that however is not tautology.
On the other hand, there is the theory of Simon Shack1, who astutely gives the Earth a slow clockwise orbit of about 50” per year, which would account for the same observed precession of the equinoxes. Now, this is not tautology either. I will not belabor the point, but even the misused definition of tautology does not hold up to scrutiny here, since nobody doubts that the obliquity of the ecliptic has decreased since Ptolemy’s epoch.
Aristotelic boys, read some astronomy.
